After all, the essential and simple things to put on the canvas are always very near and within us

ABOUT MAXB

The work of Max B. is a lifelong, ongoing personal dialogue with nature, the evanescent moment and painting, indexed in terms of his personal life experiences. Born in Corsica and having lived most of his life near coastal regions, this attitude towards life and work often reflects his love for the beach as a canvass in which to extend the vocation of the painter. Or as he says:

I grew up on the edge of the sea and later at the edge of the atelier

One of the best way to get a sense for the breadth and scope of Max B’s oeuvre. Other than standing in front of an open ocean, or directly in front of his paintings, may be his own account of life and work:

So for Max B. painting is a pretext correlative to life, a veil marking the first stage of something about to give in beyond the surface, which becomes a condition of possibility. According to him, it is “behind the canvas that the subject is to be found, in front of us we can only make out his shadow.

Like a vagabond seagull, I come from the sea. I grew up and lived above rocks and winds, there where the blades and sea sprays pierced by rainbows of dust collide with perfumes of iodine and salt on top of the seaweed. I have saved intact from those places and magical moments the indelible beauty which accompanies the present moment, where all unfinished things, from days far on, are transformed into eternity.

A very important referent and influence for the New Figuration movement in France, Max B. is a well-established and highly reputed artist in France, where his work has long been sought after and is present in important collections. In recent years this most significant painter has decided to finally make his work more internationally available to collectors, so that for example, his first auction sale in Paris was sold 30% over initial estimations. We are very proud to be at the beginning of Max B. international success.
